Support Armbrae

Why Support Armbrae?

Armbrae, a small, nurturing and academically rigorous independent school, has a long tradition in the history of education in Halifax. We are committed to our mission of preparing our students for university as life-long learners, critical thinkers, and engaged citizens. It takes outstanding, dedicated faculty, the best in educational programmes and resources, and countless opportunities for growth in leadership and character. Armbrae relies on tuition and philanthropy to realize its mission for each and every student. By supporting Armbrae, you are enhancing the educational experience for our students – the future leaders of tomorrow.

The Annual Fund

An annual giving program is the cornerstone of all fundraising activities for all charities, including independent day and boarding schools. Annual giving supports priority projects that the school has identified and that will have a direct impact on the educational experience of current and future students at Armbrae. This is an opportunity for the entire Armbrae community to come together – parents, alumni, faculty and staff, former parents, grandparents, the Board, and friends of the school – to show their support and make a difference to the educational experience of Armbrae students. All gifts, large and small, make a difference! Donations are tax-deductible. We thank you in advance for your support!

The Endowment Fund

Across North America, an independent school education continues to be an expensive service, one that is an increasingly challenging goal for many families. In order to maintain a consistently robust enrollment each year, and to provide talented, mission-appropriate students with the opportunity to be transformed by an Armbrae education, we need to increase the size of our current endowment. Diversity in all forms – gender, ethnic and socioeconomic – is key to maintaining and nurturing a healthy and dynamic school community.

With a larger endowment, we will be able to grow and enhance our scholarship and bursary programme for current and prospective promising scholars, artists, leaders, and athletes at Armbrae.

In addition to our scholarship and bursary programme, we want to build endowed funds to support faculty professional development in order to not only attract the best educators but to also ensure that they remain leaders in their fields. This is critical to providing an outstanding educational experience for our students and to elevating Armbrae’s position as a leader in education.

In order to further enhance the academic, athletic and artistic experiences for our students, we intend to create endowed funds that will help to further elevate our programmes and to ensure that we have the funds to implement creative and cutting- edge initiatives in the years ahead. These funds will serve to further galvanize the first class programmes and experience of an Armbrae education.

Planned Giving

With planned giving, donors are thinking about the future benefits to the organization and the tax advantages to the donor and her/her estate. Planned gifts can be a bequest made through your will, a gift of life insurance, shares or stocks, RRSP/RRIF or an annuity. A planned gift is a wonderful way to leave a legacy to areas and programmes of the greatest importance to you. Generally, planned giving includes consultation with family members and financial advisors. Should you wish more information, we would be happy to work with you and your team. To discuss your intentions and for more information about making a planned gift, please please e-mail Meaghan Jackson, Advancement Officer.

Gifts of Securities

The donation of securities is a popular and effective charitable donation option. Canadian tax on the capital gains accrued on publicly traded securities can be eliminated when securities are gifted to a registered charity such as Armbrae Academy. To make a gift of securities and/or stocks of share certificates, mutual fund units, or other publicly traded security to Armbrae Academy, please contact Meaghan Jackson, Advancement Officer for further details. We encourage you to talk with your broker or financial advisor for more information on the tax advantages of gifts of appreciated securities.

Matching Gifts from Corporate Employers

Many companies will match the gifts of employees, their spouses, directors or retirees. You may be able to double or triple the value of your gift to Armbrae Academy if you are employed by a company with this program. Check with your Human Resources Department to see if your company has a matching gift program. They will provide you with a matching gift form to complete and send to us with your donation.

Gift in Honor/Gift in Memory

Celebrating your graduate or remembering a grandparent.

Gifts-in-kind

Armbrae Academy accepts gifts in kind on a case by case basis. The primary criterion is that the gift furthers the school’s mission. For donations valued at $1,000 or more, the donor must provide an independent third-party appraisal from a qualified professional. You will be eligible to receive tax benefits for the fair market value of your gift. For more information, please e-mail Meaghan Jackson, Advancement Officer.

Alumni

Welcome to the Armbrae Academy Alumni page! As an alumna and now Advancement Officer at Armbrae Academy, I am excited to explore new initiatives and create events to connect and bring together alumni across all generations. This page serves as your one stop guide to alumni events, initiatives and the latest news of what is happening in the Armbrae community.

With this new initiative, I am looking to find new ways to connect alumni to each other, support alumni projects and provide new networking and mentoring opportunities. I am currently seeking volunteers to help create an Alumni Executive and/or to serve as a class agent.

Whether you are in Halifax, or Toronto, or British Columbia or somewhere else in the world, I hope you will get involved with the Armbrae alumni community. If you have an idea you would like to see initiated, are interested in reconnecting with old classmates or simply want to do your part to support Armbrae, please feel free to get in touch with me. I look forward to working with you!

Sincerely,

Meaghan Jackson
