Armbrae Academy student Jessica Dean is headed to UNB this fall to begin her studies in Engineering with the prestigious Schulich Leader Scholarship.
Jessica Dean is one of only 100 students chosen from across Canada this year to receive the scholarships for undergraduate education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). There were 1500 nominations for the scholarships in 2020, out of a pool of over 300,000 candidates across Canada. The winners are selected for their outstanding academic and extracurricular achievements.
![]() Jessica Dean will be graduating from Armbrae Academy in Halifax, NS, in June. She is a recipient of the $100,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. Jessica has been an Honour Roll student for the past six years, and is the recipient of a number of awards for academic achievement and volunteerism, including the Lieutenant Governor's Education Medal in 2019, the Duke of Edinburgh Award (Bronze), and the Girl Guides of Canada Chief Commissioner's Awards and Canada Cord. Jessica is a hard-working and committed member of the Armbrae community, and her contributions include undertaking prefect duties with the Grade 6 class, devoting her free time to peer tutoring in Math and French, helping to organize fun school events - most recently a Junior School Science Olympics - and being a member of the Senior Robotics team. She is fluent in English and French, and attended the summer French immersion program at Université Sainte-Anne. Jessica has been a leader with Girl Guides of Canada for a number of years, including participating in the Girl Guides of Canada Nova Scotia Youth Forum and serving as Master of Ceremonies for the 2018 and 2019 Provincial Youth Recognition Ceremony.

![]() Schulich Leader Scholarships are prestigious entrance scholarships awarded to 100 high school graduates enrolling in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) undergraduate program at 20 partner universities in Canada. Each year, each high school in Canada can submit one Schulich Leader Nominee based on academic excellence in STEM, entrepreneurial leadership and financial need.
