 | Admission Procedures
Armbrae Academy requires that every applicant satisfy certain minimum academic requirements and have a positive attitude towards the School and its philosophy. Because the welfare of the Academy's Community is founded upon the concepts of shared responsibility and quality of education, it is essential that a prospective student understand and respect Armbrae's standards in relation to both conduct and academic achievement. The school is not equipped to serve students who have special educational needs, either behavioural or academic.
Application Form
As a first requirement, the Application for Admission should be completed in full by the parent(s) or guardian(s) and submitted to the Academy accompanied by the non-refundable application fee of $150. The completed application must be accompanied by photocopied reproductions of the student's academic performance for the last two school years, together with the latest report(s). The parent(s) guardian(s) must also attach the Confidential Report By Parent(s) and ensure that the Confidential School Report is sent to a teacher at the present school who is well acquainted with the student. All of these documents must be provided to the School before the student's application is given final consideration. |
Entrance Examinations
A student applying for entry at Armbrae will be required to undergo an entrance examination to assess the student's academic performance and the degree to which basic academic skills have been mastered. Applicants will be asked to attend the Academy on a specified day for the purpose of writing these examinations. Applicants to Grade Primary will be given a readiness assessment.
Interviews
It is required that prospective students from the Nova Scotia area meet by appointment with the Headmaster (or his designate) before or after the entrance examinations are written. At this time the Headmaster or designate will discuss with the applicant the School's programme, philosophy, and code of conduct and discipline. |
Entrance Requirements - Grade Primary
Students must be five years of age on or before December 31 for the year in which entry is sought.
Entrance Requirements - Grades 1-12
The decision to admit a student or not is determined by:
- The applicant having satisfied the academic requirements of Armbrae through the entrance examinations and prior scholastic achievements.
- The applicant having demonstrated a positive attitude towards the standards of dress, discipline, and philosophy required by Armbrae.
- The receipt of the parent's confidential report and the previous school's confidential report attesting to the applicant's attitude, work habits, and performance.
When a student has been admitted, a place may be offered depending upon the availability of space in the grade. Priority may be given to an applicant who has siblings at the Academy or is the child of an alumnus or alumna or faculty. If there is no space in the grade, the student will be placed in a waiting pool.
Admission does not guarantee that a place will ultimately be offered. If one is offered, however, a non-refundable tuition deposit of $1000.00 must be paid. Places offered to successful applicants will not be secured until the tuition deposit has been paid. The $1000 deposit will be deducted from the first term's fees, but the full $1000.00 is non-refundable if the applicant subsequently withdraws.
Withdrawal by Request
The Headmaster has the right to request, at any time, the immediate withdrawal of any student whose presence in the school the Headmaster considers to be undesirable; students may be asked to withdraw either because of poor academic performance or because of misbehaviour. |

2012 John Stone Award Armbrae Academy is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2012 John Stone Award. The award was established in 2010 to recognize the qualities of humanity, empathy, ethics, respect for the dignity of others and/or service to others. Students apply for the award by presenting a case for a humanitarian leadership opportunity. This could be through an existing organization, or a project of their own design. This year's winner is Stephanie Robertson-Kempton, a Grade 11 student who feels passionately about supporting the Cambodia Arts and Scholarship Foundation. Stephanie's project will aid in the education of girls and young women who are typically excluded from educational opportunities.
